Natural spring and watercourse

A spring-fed watercourse that meanders through SERF and joins Samford Creek on the north-western boundary.

What this is

  • The watercourse begins on the northern slopes of Camp Mountain, enters SERF at the eastern boundary and joins Samford Creek on SERF's north-western boundary.
Why it matters
  • It provides a valuable resource for fauna and flora, including access to water and microhabitat changes such as cooling and increases in water vapour.
What to notice
  • The forest changes from dry sclerophyll Eucalyptus forest to a wetter Melaleuca-dominated forest as you walk downhill toward the creek.
  • Melaleuca species have spongy, papery bark that helps protect the tree from bushfires.
Research connection

The watercourse anchors riparian and hydrology research at SERF and connects upslope monitoring plots to downstream Samford Creek.
